Four geoinformation databases are to be created as part of the project “Coordinates of Time: development of cooperation between the youth of Russia and Hungary”.

The application to the Presidential Grants Foundation was submitted by the Vologda branch of the Russian Geographical Society, which won a grant of almost three million rubles.

Vologda State University, the University of Szeged, the Consulate of Russia in Hungary (Szeged), the Hungarian Foundation “FOKUSZ-RUS” (Hungarian universities for the Russian culture and language) will be the project partners.

The collection and analysis of information will be carried out with the help of the geoportal of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation https://pamyat-naroda.ru/, which contains archival materials about the participants of the Great Patriotic War.

Nikolai Anisimov, senior lecturer at the Department of Urban Cadastre and Geodesy of Vologda State University, said that “the work has already been completed by 50-60 percent; a consolidated database will be ready in a month, which will make it possible to indicate the burial places of the Soviet Army soldiers, and the locations of memorials. The results will be sent to Hungary, where the Hungarian working group will verify them.”
