The fifth All-Russian scientific and practical conference “Research of the Russian North: results and prospects” started at Vologda State University. A large scientific meeting brought together geographers, biologists, and ecologists from Vologda, St. Petersburg, Moscow, the Yaroslavl region, Vytegra, and Arkhangelsk. The conference is being held face-to-face and remotely.
VSU rector Vyacheslav Priyatelev spoke about the uniqueness of the Northern land: “The territory of the Russian North has its own specifics related to natural and climatic conditions. Therefore, all economic and socio-cultural processes have their own unique features that affect other regions of our country.”
VSU Professor at the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, Candidate of Geographical Sciences Nadezhda Maksutova, summed up the results of the expedition that was held last summer as part of the project “Together across the Russian North: historical waterways”. A video diary (with a description of water and auto routes), photo collections, maps, and an interactive atlas were made during the expedition.
The conference continued with a round table where participants discussed issues of environmental protection, and rational use of natural resources.
