Alexey Lavrov, Deputy Finance Minister and President of the “Russian society for friendship with Cuba” visited Vologda State University.
The visit began with a tour of the exhibition “Cuba’s my love!”, which had opened the day before, in the administrative building of VSU. The exhibition consists of 33 photos of Fidel Castro, the Cuban revolution leader, taken at different periods of his political activities.
Then Alexey Lavrov met with the students and employees of Vologda State University. The Rector of VSU, Vyacheslav Priyatelev, introduced the guest of honor to the audience.
During the meeting, Alexey Lavrov spoke about the history and activities of the Interregional public organization “Russian society for friendship with Cuba”.
“When you think about the history of relations between Russia and Cuba, you are amazed at the number of coincidences. It seems that history itself led the two completely different countries to each other. Back in the day during the Second Liberation War in 1896, three Russian volunteers were fighting under the leadership of General Maceo. And people in Cuba still remember them”, said Alexey Mikhailovich.
VSU announced plans on popularizing Cuba among students. When all anti-virus restrictions are revoked, it is planned to resume salsa classes at the University. Which is more, students will be able to show their talents by drawing impressive views of the “Island of Freedom”. The University’s film club is to organize viewing of popular Soviet-Cuban films such as “I am Cuba”, dedicated to the Cuban revolution.
