The students were really stoked to carry out a research on one of the Vologda Oblast dialects. Nadezhda Osokina lives in faraway Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, but she collects dialect words and expressions of her homeland – the villages of the Cherepovets district. Her notebooks contain more than three thousand words and idioms.
Apart from dialect words and expressions, the archive of Nadezhda Vasilyevna is full of interesting observations on customs, traditions and culture of the villagers.
The students had a task to unscramble the scanned copies of the texts, and present them in a printed form. Dialects are gradually vanishing, and we should hurry to record them. The students accomplished their task perfectly, it means that another dialect of the Vologda Oblast has been studied and described. Later the valuable results of the research might be published.
