Co-author of the well-known book “Teaching Lexically” and such bestsellers as “Innovations”, “Outcomes” and “Outcomes Second Edition”, co-founder and Director of the London school “Lexical Lab”, held an online English lesson for students of the Institute of Pedagogy, Psychology and Physical Education.
The online class was organized by Ekaterina Shadrova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor at Vologda State University.
During the online meeting, the lexical approach to teaching English was discussed. As we know, Hugh Dellar is one of the ideologists of this method of teaching.
This method is based on the fact that foundation of any language is its vocabulary, which plays a crucial role in the transmission of meaning, while grammatical structures are learned through the introduction of lexical chunks (a group of words that are commonly found together). According to this method, it is necessary to spend more time developing the ability of students to use fixed combinations of words in speech.
