The Russian-Swedish seminar on road safety within the framework of the “Vision Zero” program was held at the Vologda State University.
The event was attended by lecturers and students of the Institute of Civil Engineering, representatives of the Road-building and Transport Department of the Vologda Oblast, and the Traffic Police.
Sweden was represented by Lars Ekman, Senior adviser of Road Traffic safety unit of Swedish Transport Administration, and Stefan Jonsson, Head of Road Traffic safety unit of Swedish Transport Administration.
The representatives of Swedish Transport Administration spoke about the implementation of “Vision Zero” program, the main goal of which is to eliminate and prevent fatal accidents and injuries on public roads.
The program which has been in use in Sweden for more than twenty years has shown high efficiency. In 2018, the number of fatal accidents decreased to 220 people. This is one of the lowest indicators among the EU countries.
