A seminar for students of Biology and Bioecology was held at the Institute of mathematics, Natural and Computer Sciences. It was organized by the companies “Helicon” and “Bio-Rad Laboratories», the Society of Biotechnologists of Russia named after Yu. A. Ovchinnikov and the Vologda State University.
Dmitry Krivosheev, Director of the VSU Center for Collective Use of Equipment, opened the seminar, speaking about the great importance of the development of biotechnological cluster for the Vologda Oblast.
The seminar speakers told the students about one of the most common methods in molecular biology (PCR). It can be used in determining the species of an organism, cloning genes, identifying all sorts of diseases, carrying out forensic examinations, and determining the kinship of people.
