VSU students learned about the possibilities of the University GIS Center

A round table on the use of Geoinformation Systems (GIS) in research was held at the Vologda State University as part of the “Days of student science”.

Nikolai Anisimov, a VSU GIS Center specialist, told the students of the results of the work funded by the Government of the Vologda Oblast, which was aimed at creating a database of maps of the region.

The grant of two million rubles opened new opportunities for research activities for students. Remote sensing and unmanned aircraft are among them.

The participants of the round table also discussed the possibilities of specialized programs and modules of geographic information systems, their use in commercial activities and territorial planning. Much attention was paid to the use of geoportals for the needs of municipalities, large companies and citizens.

Students were particularly interested in creating a Digital Twin using GIS, its functions and use. The students noted that in the era of digital economy we can solve the most daring and relevant tasks.
