The online meeting was organized as part of cooperation between the Vologda Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Vologda State University and the University of Szeged (Hungary). The event was dedicated to joint participation of Russian and Hungarian institutions in the presidential grant project “Coordinates of Time”.
The project deals with youth cooperation in Russia and Hungary. It involves students from Vologda and Szeged, as well as the members of the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society at VSU.
There are three areas for prospective cooperation. Preservation of historical memory of the Vologodians who died during the WW II in Hungary; discussion of modern global environmental problems (climate change, conservation of biodiversity, biological risks) and development of educational, and ecological tourism.
Nadezhda Maksutova, the chairperson of the Vologda Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, spoke about the Russian-Hungarian working group which includes the project partners – FOKUZS-RUS Foundation, representatives of the Russian Consulate and Rossotrudnichestvo in Hungary.
“I am glad that within a short period of time we have made much progress with such a versatile project related to preserving the memory of the Soviet soldiers interred on Hungarian soil. Russian-Hungarian youth cooperation will be mutually beneficial for both of our countries,”- said Andrey Schleining, Honorary Consul of Russian Federation in Szeged, co-founder of the FOKUZS-RUS Foundation, and the project coordinator from the Hungarian side.
