In an interview with the media portal “Audience”, the captain of the University team “Vikings-VSU” spoke who can play American football, the team was training during the period of self-isolation and why he chose Vologda State University to continue his education.
– Nikita, why American football? What attracted you to this sport?
I learned about American football when I was a student, from movies. When I came to my first training, I didn’t know the rules, I didn’t understand what this game was about. All I realized was that it was very challenging. Tactics in American football are comparable to chess. In the United States, this sport is called “chess in armor”. People with an analytical mind should definitely like this game.
– Could you tell us a few words about the achievments of the Vikings-VSU team?
Despite the fact that last season was quite difficult for us, Vikings-VSU is already one of the most recognizable teams in Russia. We are among the top 20-30 teams in Russia and, of course, we are not going to stop there.
– How did you train during the period of self-isolation?
Like everyone else, we trained remotly. Then we started to train one or two people at a time, and only at the end of the summer we were able to conduct full-fledged training.
– We know that this year you enrolled for the master’s degree program at VSU…
– I graduated from the University quite a long time ago, but the desire for knowledge brought me back. There was absolutely no question of choosing a University. VSU is the flagship of education in the Vologda Oblast, so I didn’t even consider other options.
