Yuri Vorobyov, the Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Russian Geographical Society, met with the children’s crew of the expedition “Together across the Russian North – 2020” at the festival “Heirs of Traditions”.

The official meeting took place in the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery on August 4, 2020. The gaff schooner “Onezhskaya Zhemchuzhina” with the children’s crew cast anchor off the shores of Lake Siverskoe earlier that day.

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Russian Geographical Society said addressing the cadets – “I am so excited to see a crew who are able to brave the elements… Cadets, you build up your characters, you set yourselves the right targets and strive to achieve them, you take responsibility, and learn how to communicate with other crew members …”

The young people have been travelling for three days and have already learned a lot, for example, how to use the first-aid kit, and orientate themselves or carry out hydrobiological and ichthyological research.

The expedition is organized by Vologda State University under the auspice of the Russian Geographical Society, with the active participation of the Government of the Vologda Oblast, and EMERCOM of the Russian Federation.
