The author of the publication is the Head of the Department of General History and World Politics, Vasily Sablin.
The article deals with the history of Vologda State University during the Great Patriotic War (at that time – Vologda Teachers Training Institute). It describes organization of educational process, academic life of the Institute, activities of the prominent scientists and teachers. At that period of time the Institute was used as a hospital for evacuated citizens of besieged Leningrad.
“With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the University faced a big responsibility – not even for a moment to stop training teachers. And this task was successfully completed. In 1941 – 1945, 1111 teachers of different subjects were trained at the Institute. This is more than half of the graduates for all the previous pre-war years”, says VSU Professor Vasily Sablin.
