The event was opened by Svetlana Vinogradova, Vice-rector for Educational Activities of the Vologda State University: “The historical period the Winter Academy is dedicated to is one of the turning points in the development of Germany. This is the time of reviewing the results of the Second World War, the era of unification of the country.”
Students from universities of Arkhangelsk, Belgorod, Vyatka, Nizhny Novgorod, Smolensk, Tver, and Yaroslavl take part in the work of the Academy apart from the VSU students. The total number of students of the Academy equals 38.
For five days, Dr. Klaus Waschik and Mr. Janssen will work with future translators and teachers of the German language, speaking on various aspects of the history of Germany after its unification. The students will be watching and discussing films, giving evaluation of current events. All classes are held in German.
