A scientific seminar of the Vologda regional branch of the scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the methodology of artificial intelligence (AI) was held at VSU. The participants gathered for the first time after a three-year break.
The chair of the meeting – Professor Anatoly Shvetsov told the audience about the Scientific Council of Russian Academy of Sciences. The organization was established in February 2005 by the Department of Social Sciences of the Russian Academy. The Council consists of eight academicians and nine corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, representatives of twelve academic institutions, and a number of universities.
During the meeting, professor, head of the Department of Philosophy at VSU Natalia Yastreb presented a report on big data and artificial intelligence.
“The efficiency of all social institutions formed after the Second World War is now being questioned. They do not correspond to the information agenda that currently exists. The world has changed under the influence of information technologies and big data” – the author of the report highlighted the problem.
Natalia Yastreb explained the definition of “big data”. This is collection and analysis of huge amounts of information in real time. It has always been a human being, who received the information, but now the amount of data is so large that technologies have begun to perform this role.
One of the most important tasks facing the mankind today is to develop algorithms for processing data that will allow humans to extract significant information. In this regard, AI steps forward.
