VSU Associate Professor Dmitry Krivosheev spoke about the methods of working with DNA on the course “Introduction to NGS technologies. DNA data sequencing”.

The 20th century saw the birth of genetics and the genes studies. The 21st century brought forth genomics, and the analysis of vast amounts of genetic information. Probably, in the near future, the largest share of new data that is being accumulated in the world will be information on genetic sequences.

“Each and every one of us is an incredible mixture of genetic markers of different ethnic groups, so it is impossible to create any ethnically oriented weapon. There are no “Russian genes” or “Swiss genes” that are characteristic of one and only one ethnic group. It is only possible to determine which part of the markers in the genome of a particular person coincides with the most common markers of representatives of a certain ethnic group,” – says the scientist.
