VSU is the largest scientific and educational center in the Vologda Oblast. Today, VSU incorporates 6 institutes and a University College. Vologda State University has more than 8,000 students.
The history of the university begins in 1912 when a Teachers’ Institute was opened in Vologda. In 1918, the institute was transformed into the Vologda Pedagogical Institute.
The modern history of VSU, as a classical university, begins in 2014 after the merger of Vologda State Teachers’ training University and Vologda Polytechnical University.
Today, VSU holds leading positions in the region in the fields of “Civil Construction”, “Electric and thermal power engineering”, “Information Systems and Technologies”, “Education and Pedagogical Sciences”, “Jurisprudence”, “Economics” and “Management”.
