There are lots of talented athletes at Vologda State University. A biathlete, Maxim Tsvetkov, a world champion and the bronze medalist of the Winter Olympic Games, is one of the most prominent of them.
We asked Maxim 5 questions and he shared his opinion with us.
What do you like and dislike in biathlon?
A certain element of surprise, intrigue is what attracts people to biathlon. Every time you come to the firing line, you cannot be sure whether you’ll hit the target or not. It’s something of a lottery. As for the second part of your question, the procedure to get a permit for weapons transportation is rather complicated and inconvenient.
What emotions do you have if an opponent outruns you?
Well, it all depends on the situation. Sometimes, you deliberately let the opponents outrun you to “piggyback” on them, if you are in a good shape. In this case you have no emotions. And if you are in a bad shape and you are losing at the finish line, then, of course, you feel frustrated.
What presents do biathletes get from their fans? What is the most memorable gift you’ve received?
It is a very interesting question. I was given a lot of presents during my sports career: chocolates, souvenirs, a bunch of stuffed toys. I remember, last year in Tyumen, a little girl gave me a toy, which she knitted herself. That was the most adorable gift ever.
Every athlete has uncomfortable feeling of nervousness before the start. What helps you overcome anxiety?
A clear plan of actions helps me get rid of anxiety before the competition. If you know exactly what you are doing, you won’t panic during the race.
What motto motivates you?
In sports, no one is going to work out for you. Everything depends on your will and your hard work.
