On November 22, 1912, Vologda Teachers’ Institute was opened for students. The Institute trained teachers for elementary and middle schools.
In his speech, the rector of VSU, Vyacheslav Priyatelev, mentioned that, nowadays, Vologda State University is the successor to the glorious traditions of Vologda Teachers’ Institute: “All these years VSU has been preparing not only teachers. In the 1930s, the university had an agrarian and pedagogical profile and trained also personnel for agriculture. Today Vologda State University preserves, continues and multiplies the traditions of Vologda Teachers’ Institute. I am grateful to our faculty for the fact that our university successfully copes with the task of training highly qualified professionals.”
To commemorate this event, a memorial plaque was installed on the historical building where 110 years ago the Institute was located.
