At present, 153 international students study at Vologda State University.

Most of them come from the counties of Central Asia.  As a rule, international students pursue university degrees in Engineering and Construction. But there are students who decided to link their future with Tourism and Hospitality, and after receiving a diploma returned to their countries. Sanzharbek Rakhmatov, a VSU alumnus, is one of them. Having received his degree in “Hotel Business”, he returned to his home country – Uzbekistan.

Sanzharbek shared his story with us.

Why did you decide to study “Hotel business”?

I like meeting new people, get acquainted with other cultures. My profession provides all these opportunities.

What skills did you gain at Vologda State University?

At VSU, I studied Russian culture and levelled up my knowledge of the Russian language. My Russian friends and fellow students, of course, helped me with it a lot. While a university student, I realized that it is necessary to learn all the subtleties of your profession, and keep studying all the time. I hope that in the future Vologda State University will be proud of my achievements.

My brother owns a travel agency. I work for him now. We are mainly engaged in domestic tourism. Our jobs is to meet our guests, recommend a tour guide to them, book plane or train tickets, and help them rent a car.

My first tourists were from India. I took them on tour. There are a lot of places of interest in Uzbekistan. Tourists from all over the world visit our country. My favorite place is Registan Square in Samarkand.

Can you give a word of advice to young people from Uzbekistan who are thinking about studying in Russia?

I’d tell them that they should love their future profession and respect their Alma Mater. They should work hard to make the best of themselves, and, of course, shoot for the stars.
