As a rule, a peasant who was believed to be guilty for\nwrongdoing was elected to this post, as one of the headman\u2019s duties was to pay\noff all shortfalls in taxes, he also had to resolve disputes among the\nvillagers, and monitor sowing and harvesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the students learned about peasant\u2019s\ntraditions and customs.
